Clinical Significance:
HMB45 (Human Melanoma Black) is a membrane protein required to form melanosomal fibrils, and facilitates maturation of pre-melanosomes. The antibody detects melanosomal glycoprotein gp100, which is present in melanocytes (normal and neoplastic), as well as other neural crest tumors, some carcinomas and some soft tissue tumors.
