- Clinical Significance:
- The CD34 antigen is a single chain transmembrane glycoprotein with a molecular weight of 110 kD. The CD34 protein is selectively expressed on human lymphoid and myeloid hemopoietic progenitor cells. It is a marker for hematogones, or increased blasts in the setting of MDS or leukemia. The CD34 antigen is also expressed on vascular endothelium. It is useful in the differential diagnosis of spindle cell neoplasms, positive in vascular tumors as well as DFSP, SFT, spindle cell lipoma, liposarcoma, some GIST, and meningioma. It may assist in the evaluation of possible lymph/vascular space invasion by other tumor types.
