Clinical Significance:
Melan A, a product of the MART-1 (Melanoma Antigen Recognized by T cells) gene, is a melanocyte differentiation marker. This antigen is expressed in all normal melanocytes and melanocyte cell lines. The A-103 clone also has cross-reactivity with steroid hormone producing cells of the adrenal cortex, granulosa and theca cells of the ovary and Leydig cells of the testis. This antibody is useful for the characterization of melanocytic neoplasms, as well as other tumors, such as PEComas, clear cell sarcoma, angiomyolipoma, lymphangioleiomyomatosis and pulmonary sugar tumor.
