Clinical Significance:
Epithelial membrane antigen (EMA), also known as episialin or MUC1, is reported to be expressed in a variety of normal and neoplastic epithelia. It is also present on plasma cells, and some types of stromal cells. In addition to many epithelial neoplasms, EMA may be demonstrated on meningiomas, some sarcomas, mesothelioma, myeloma, nodular LP Hodgkin lymphoma, and some types of lymphoma.
