Clinical Significance:
D2-40 (podoplanin) identifies the ~38 kDa O-linked transmembrane sialoglycoprotein podoplanin, which is expressed in lymphatic endothelium, but not in the blood vessel endothelium. Besides the expression in lymphatic endothelium, podoplanin is also found in a variety of other tissues, including mesothelial cells, reticular cells, follicular dendritic cells, ovarian and testicular germ cells. Results aid in the diagnosis of lymphatic invasion of primary tumors, Kaposi's sarcoma, mesothelioma, and some skin adnexal tumors.
