Clinical Significance:
CA125 (Cancer antigen 125) is a glycoprotein coded by the MUC16 gene, found in variety of tumors, including ovary, cervix, endometrium, GI tract, breast and thyroid, as well as normal tissue such as fallopian tube. It is not very specific, and may also be seen in irritated, inflamed or neoplastic mesothelial cells, as well as epithelioid sarcoma and desmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT).
