- Clinical Significance:
- BCL-2 is an inner mitochondrial membrane protein that appears to inhibit apoptosis in a wide variety of tissues. In lymphomas (follicular, some DLBCL) with certain translocations, Bcl-2 is upregulated, although immunohistochemical expression may be identified in the absence of the translocation. The protein is normally expressed in small B lymphocytes of the mantle and marginal zones, as well as many T lymphocytes. The antibody may also be useful in the differential diagnosis of soft tissue neoplasms.
