Clinical Significance:
Cytokeratins are intermediate filaments, most commonly associated with epithelial cells and are used to detect and/or characterize a tumor as carcinoma, although they are also found in some non-epithelial cell types/tumor. Cytokeratin AE1/AE3 is a pankeratin containing a cocktail of cytokeratins 1-8, 10, 14-16 and 19, but does not include CK17 or CK18.
